The Dominican Republic has implemented new touristic strategies

The people of a country and its culture is what makes tourists come back again and continue enjoying the country. The unit has created a number of departments in charge of promoting abroad in the country and the demonstrations that identify the Dominican people, in addition to a number of projects that are under implementation.

The tourism strategy had a structural flaw: too focused on the segment of sun and sand, which at the time was very booming, being new to Europeans, but after one or two visits tourists are disenchanted.

Now the strategy is to develop the concept of culinary tourism, cultural, ecological, corporate and nostalgic to offer higher quality, variety and society participation. There are also the sports tourism, where the country has been highlighted with golf, a sport practiced by high consumption of visitors.

Cultural tourism: It is one that allows the tourist to know the distinctive features of a city (monuments, museums ...) Tati Olmos, director of cultural tourism department of the Secretariat, said that the country concentrates on promoting its most distinctive traits as are dancing, music and folklore, carnival and crafts, international trade fairs and tourist promotions that are made in the markets of Europe, North America and South America. Olmos explained that the intention is to create cultural routes in Santo Domingo, Monte Plata, Yamasa, Bayaguana and Villa Mella, to reap the historical and religious knowledge they possess these locations.

Gourmet Tourism: Not only focuses on assisting restaurants, but also on a visit to markets, shops selling food and festivals. One aim is to surprise with new flavors and culinary dishes. In Chile, for example, the route is known for wines in Europe and the Iberian ham and cheese from goat. Lourdes Pena, advises gastronomic Tourism, said that the foreign palates are conquered with the fish with coconut, cassava flour stuffed with meat, rice spring, avocado salad, rice with milk and beans with sweet leading to international festivals.

Business: It occurs when people are mobilized to other countries for employment purposes and professionals. This includes conventions, summits, fairs, exhibitions and conferences. It is considered that generates higher revenues, because the tourist demand transportation, lodging, food, entertainment, shopping and invests, as the best investment you can find in the real estate sector.

Ecotourism: It focuses on the development of activities that enable the enjoyment of the environment and its virtual preservation, and includes the participation of the communities in which it develops. Jarabacoa, Constanza, national parks, especially the east; Samana and Pico Duarte are the places that are most visited from the tourists.

NostalgicTourism: This kind of segment is not conceptually defined in the country, although it takes into account indirectly. It occurs when migrants return periodically to their home country to participate in social activities, cultural and religious.

In the Dominican Republic is booming at Christmas and summer, where Creoles have been absent on holiday and to strengthen family ties. Agencies and national and international institutions seek greater development of this segment to increase visits and diversify tourism to address this niche market.
