The Dominican Republic important destination for visitors from Switzerland

The secretary of Tourism, Felix Jimenez, reported that Dominican Republic has become an important destination for Swiss visitors.

At a press conference conducted in Zurich, Switzerland, the official stressed that a sample of that attraction is the fact that tourism from that nation grew 7.2% in the first five months of this year and 25% in May and visited the Jimenez other nations during a tour of Europe in pursuit of strengthening bilateral ties and make known the initiatives of the Dominican Government through the Committee on Infrastructure Development Bank Holiday Resorts (Ceiztur).

He referred to the project of the Hot Springs salamander in Canoeing, Barahona, which involves an investment of about 25000 million pesos, whose completion is expected by 2012. The complex will have about 1000 rooms, convention center, tennis courts suitable for international competitions and hot springs for body treatments, the official elaborated.

He pointed out projects which will boost the hotels such as Westin Roko Ki, which will open at year's end, the Sanctuary Cap Cana, Ritz Carlton and the Four Seasons in La Romana. He recalled that the Government, through the Sectur, has earmarked U.S. $ 450 million to improving tourism infrastructure and another $ 650 will be invested in the next biennium.
