In the Dominican Republic grow of tourist arrivals, for the ninth consecutive month.
The number of arrivals by air for non-resident tourists to the Dominican Republic continued to rise markedly in the past month, when 389,075 of these visitors arrived, said the secretary of Tourism, Felix Jimenez.
This significant figure-the official said-represents a percentage increase of 5.9 percent, and all of 82,391 visitors, compared with March 2007. With that month and nine consecutive months in which there have been positive increases in arrivals of non-resident visitors, since July 2007 we are growing month by month.
In the results of last March most of the arrivals comes from Canada and Europe, two major source markets for tourists to the DR, which increased by 9 percent and 7.4 percent respectively. According to the latest figures from the Central Bank released by Jimenez, other major markets which were increased England, in a 9.2 per cent, Belgium (15.1 percent) and Spain (2.13 percent). He was also noticeable growth of South America, especially in the Argentine market, which grew 57.4 percent, Colombia (95 percent) and Chile (10.8 percent).
Another positive development is that emerging markets issuers will continue consolidating, notably Russia, which almost doubled the number of passengers, and in the regional framework Mexico, Ecuador and Peru, which took in this order increases of 12.6 percent, 103 percent and 27 percent respectively.
It is noteworthy that during the first quarter of the year, we received 1, 114,313 international tourists, compared to 1,031,922 of the same period of 2007, represent additional 82,391 tourists, an increase of 8%. He noted that during these three months arrivals also grew in regional terms, as North America and South America rose by 10.9 percent and 36.6 percent respectively, while tourists from Europe came in a higher proportion than in a 1.24 percent to the same period of 2007. Jimenez stressed that the impact on production target of foreign exchange and jobs is the arrival of tourists to different regions of the country.
