In Sosua was celebrated with enthusiasm On International Women's Day
In all parts of the world marks the International Day of Women, but many do not know what happened in reality that day to be commemorated as the International Women's Day, then a brief history of how and why this day is commemorated as International Women's Day.
On March 8 there are several versions. The best known is that of a fire in a textile factory in New York in 1857, where he allegedly burned the dead worker making a strike. According to the Canadian historian Renée Côté, there is no documentary evidence that a fire of this nature occurred that year, or that fact was the reason for establishing an international day of women. Investigations by feminists point out that what happened in 1857 was, in fact, conducting a march convened in March by the union as seamstresses of the textile company Lower East Side of New York, claiming a day working only 10 hours.
Ten years later, in 1867, also in March, there was a strike of the city of Troy, New York, who formed a union and called for an increase in wages. After three months of unemployment, the strikers were forced to return to work without having achieved their demand. The story of March 8 is crossed by situations and facts that show a scenario more complex and rich in events marked by the First World War, the Russian Revolution, the struggle for women's suffrage, the struggles between socialists and suffragists, and the growing female boom during the first decades of the twentieth century in Europe, the United States and Latin America.
The origins of International Women's Day are linked to the socialist parties of the United States and Europe, in particular the role of women in the American Socialist Party which, since 1908, introduced a few days of reflection and action called Woman's Day. The first took place on May 3, 1908, at the Garrick Theatre in Chicago, with the central objective of the campaign for suffrage and against sexual slavery. Thus, the International Women's Day surge for propaganda in favor of female suffrage, to defend labor rights of female workers and to demonstrate against the war.
